Anyone starting or continuing their college education (whether it’s their undergraduate, masters or PhD studies), as well as most of those going abroad to live and work (for a while or permanently), are required to submit a proof of their language proficiency at some point of their application process. This is where international exams come into play – these are standardized tests for assessing language knowledge and skills, they are the same wherever in the world you take them, which is why they are accepted all around the world.
Most international exams test (only) language knowledge and skills – this includes exams like TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge exams (FCE, CAE, CPE), PTE etc. However, there are exams that also include a quantitative (mathematical & logical) portion in addition to a language one, which is why they are commonly used as entrance exams for university enrollment. Some of the most popular ones of this sort would be SAT, ACT, GMAT, GRE.
